Josh’s pronouns are He/Him

Josh helps clients manage intense emotions, navigate complicated situations, and build strong, healthy relationships.

Josh Brooks grew up outside Charlotte, NC. After completing his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, he moved to Richmond, VA., following his passion of working with kids and adults who struggle with intense emotions.

Josh is great at helping teens and adults process difficult experiences, navigate complicated relationships, and figure out how to overcome what holds them back.

He is skilled at helping clients work through intense feelings and live more purposeful lives. He adapts therapeutic modalities to what makes his clients most comfortable, and what fits their situation. He often pulls from Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Non-Directive Play Therapy.

With over 10 years of experience, Josh works with clients who experience PTSD, depression, anxiety, apathy or numbness as well as anger, grief, and relationship issues. He enjoys building relationships with neurodiverse clients who experience the world from a unique perspective, such as folks with ADHD or on the Autism Spectrum. He also has extensive experience with adults and teens with substance use difficulties.

Josh excels at building relationships with children and adolescents who are not interested in participating in counseling. Parents are often surprised at how their child goes from refusing to attend meetings to looking forward to them. Josh also works with children’s guardians and their families on how to best support their loved ones during their time in counseling.

Josh provides virtual therapy (online counseling) to clients located across Virginia.
