Kate Rey, LCSW

Kate’s pronouns are She/Her
Kate uses creative therapies to help kids, teens, and adults overcome stress and feel happier.
Kate is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a BSW and MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has over 10 years of experience in the counseling field, ranging from the school environment, special education, juvenile probation, and private practice. Kate is experienced in play therapy and other expressive arts therapies that help clients process their emotions in ways that often go deeper than traditional talk therapy.
Therapy for Children and Teens:
Kate’s experience in the field started with helping children that acted out due to overwhelming thoughts and feelings. She understands that behavior communicates a need; however, she also understands that it can be difficult to communicate needs when tensions are high, which can show up as shouting, hurtful language, and/or fighting. This can be overwhelming and scary for any family.
Kate uses games, art, poetry, sand tray, and other engaging techniques to help clients understand their emotions, build self-esteem, and adjust to life changes. In addition, she helps children to identify their needs, communicate more assertively, and make healthier choices.
Therapy for Young Adults:
Kate enjoys helping young adults through the complexities of modern life. With a compassionate approach, she joins her clients as they navigate the challenges of balancing life stressors, academic pressures, and relationships. Kate believes that understanding oneself is the key to personal growth, and she provides a safe, non-judgmental space for exploration and healing.
In counseling adults, Kate employs evidence-based therapeutic techniques that empower her clients to strengthen their coping strategies, improve their emotional resilience, and foster healthier relationships. Her holistic approach emphasizes self-awareness and personal values, allowing young adults to cultivate a balanced identity and a fulfilling life.
