Stephen Barlow, LPC

Stephen's pronouns are: He/Him

Stephen helps teens, adults, and couples leave the past behind, find clarity and growth, and rediscover joy.

Stephen's journey to becoming a Mental Health Therapist began with a strong desire to assist others in dealing with emotional challenges.

While pursuing his Bachelor's degree at the University of Virginia and his Master's degree at the College of William & Mary, he spent several years as a hotline volunteer for the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) and the Alexandria Sexual Assault Center. He also worked with adults dealing with severe mental illness in community mental health and subsequently spent four years in private practice.

Stephen joins LaunchPad Counseling as a licensed professional counselor, providing therapy for teens, adults, and couples.

As a therapist, Stephen prioritizes creating an empathetic, nonjudgmental space where his clients can freely explore their innermost thoughts and feelings. Whether you're going through a challenging life transition, experiencing anxiety, feeling depressed, or struggling with self-esteem issues, he is here to offer his support.

Steven is deeply committed to assisting couples in navigating relationship challenges, including communication problems, trust issues, and the aftermath of infidelity. Utilizing The Gottman Method, he aims to help couples rebuild their relationship based on trust, respect, and mutual understanding. Recognizing that every relationship is unique, Stephen helps partners navigate their challenges by aligning with their values, whether they embrace traditional or non-traditional relationship dynamics.

Stephen's laid-back but personal approach helps his clients feel comfortable and at ease in therapy sessions. He takes the time to listen and get to know his clients first, as he believes in avoiding assumptions. Although he won't tell his clients what to do or how to live their lives, Stephen provides insight, tools, and techniques to help manage life's challenges more effectively and to support the development of healthier relationships with yourself and others.

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or need someone to talk to, Stephen encourages you to meet with him and determine whether therapy may benefit you or your partner.

Stephen provides in-person therapy at our counseling practice in Richmond. He also provides online counseling for clients who are located across Virginia, which is often convenient for couples due to time or location constraints.
