joy-300-300Joy is passionate about working with people of all ages to assist them in developing healthier relationships with themselves and others.

Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Joy received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Virginia Commonwealth University. It was during her senior year of college that she realized her passion for people was leading her to a different career. She returned to Virginia Commonwealth University to receive her Master’s Degree in Social Work.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Joy focuses on treating issues related to trauma, grief, self-esteem, developing healthier relationships, and navigating life. She has worked with clients in all stages of life, from children as young as three to adults in their seventies. She believes in the abilities of all people, regardless of age, to participate in therapy towards healthy change. She has over seven years of experience working with individuals and families in a variety of settings, including outpatient therapy and community mental health. She is experienced in play therapy and other expressive arts therapies, and enjoys utilizing them with children and teens. She is also working to complete the requirements to become a registered play therapist.

She enjoys working with women and their partners as they transition into parenthood, are struggling with anxiety or depression during their pregnancy or postpartum period, and those who are navigating trauma from their childbirth experience. She is currently pursuing certification in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders to better serve women and their partners in this area.

Joy takes a strengths based approach with all clients, believing that it is her job to help her clients discover their own inner strength and wisdom in the face of their life challenges. She feels honored to do this work that allows her journey with clients towards greater emotional well being.

Joy follows the WPATH Standards of Care when working with clients who are LGBT.
