About Nina Salzberg, Art TherapistNina uses art therapy to help clients master overwhelming challenges, manage unwanted feelings, and find solutions to stressful situations.

Nina was born and raised in Chesapeake, VA. She attended Christopher Newport University where she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She received her Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling from The George Washington University. Nina has always had a passion to help others, and was drawn to the field of Art Therapy because she personally understood the power of the creative process. Nina is a Registered Art Therapist and Resident In Counseling. She is working toward becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia.

By the use of creative arts, Nina assists her clients in better understanding themselves and discovering positive solutions to their afflictions. Her unique training in Art Therapy allows her to guide inexperienced clients in using art however it makes them most comfortable. The process of creating arts allows clients to view issues in a new light, which then helps identify solutions, develop new coping skills, and relieve stress. Emotionally charged thoughts, feelings, and past experiences aren’t easily accessed by traditional talk therapies. Nina invites her clients to express themselves through art as a gentle but effective way to discover hidden ideas, emotions, or beliefs that unconsciously keep people stuck in negative patterns. This new insight allows clients to create positive change, find relief, and feel better.  Nina’s warm personality makes her clients feel safe and supported as they explore challenging aspects of their past, present, and future.

Throughout her career, Nina has helped clients find relieve from stress around work and school, unexpected changes, and relationship issues. Her clients often come to her burdened with feelings of worry, anxiety, grief, loneliness, and overwhelming sadness. She has done extensive work with teenagers and young adults to develop self-confidence and assertiveness as they journey through life. Nina guides her clients through life’s difficulties by being open and curious to their unique experiences. She hones in on each client’s strengths and fosters positive, creative expression. Her clients feel happier and stronger as this process helps them develop love and compassion toward themselves.

Nina follows the WPATH Standards of Care when working with clients who are LGBT. She is passionate and sensitive about the unique challenges that face individuals who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
