Kate is passionate about helping children and families that are experiencing stress. She uses art, games, books, and other engaging techniques to help children control their emotions, communicate better, and make healthier decisions.
Kate is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She grew up in rural Goochland, VA and then attended college at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she obtained her Bachelor and Master degrees in Social Work. Kate has over 7 years of experience in the counseling field, including the school environment, special education, juvenile probation, and private practice. She specializes in helping children that are acting out in various ways.
Kate’s experience has focused on helping children that are acting out due to overwhelming thoughts and feelings. She understands that behavior communicates a need; however, she also understands that it can be difficult for children and adolescents to communicate their needs, which can lead to shouting, cursing, and/or arguing. This can be overwhelming and frustrating for any family. Kate uses games, art, and other engaging techniques to help children control their emotions, cope with stress, build self-esteem, and adjust to life changes. In addition, she helps children to identify their needs and teaches them how to communicate in a healthy, assertive manner.
